NYFW Spring 2013 Trend Spotting!

As we prepare ourselves for the onset of fall furs and peacoats, New York Fashion Week has already started gearing us towards Spring 2013. The runways proved to be nothing short of amazing, and there were some definite trends making major headlines. Here’s a look at some of my favorite Spring trends that are a must have for next season! Take some notes ladies, and start vamping up your spring closets from now to get yourself ahead of the game!

1. Spring 2013 Color Palette:

love, love, LOVE the clever use of color by DVF. Miss Furstenberg is a true fashion genius!

Absolutely love the juxtaposition of bold hues with neutral shades as it provides for a harmonious combination. The Spring 2013 color palette has a little something for everyone. The runways were filled with vibrancy and versatile looks created by fabulous color combinations.

2. Patriotic Colors and Combos:

Red, White, and Blue were all over the Spring runways. Whether these hues solely graced the runway, or whether they were combined, the trio of colors was pure perfection. I absolutely love this bold and chic amalgamation of colors.

From skinny, to wide, to geometric and MORE! Stripes were everywhere to be seen for Spring 2013. I especially love it on the Tommy Hilfiger sleek one piece swimsuit. The stripes trend gives a sense of imprisonment behind bars with a chic fashion twist!

Floral and Digital prints were huge on the Spring runways. These sundry prints were bright and bold. Rodarte’s use of prints was especially appetizing as multiple vibrant prints were used to create a powerful ensemble.

5. Slouchy Chic

Wide-legged pants, harem pants, and loose caftans were spotted in various designer collections. DVF’s take on this slouchy chic trend was the best of the lot. Her use of color and detailing completely updated these 70s silhouettes with a modern twist.

6. Romantic Lace

Lace is back ladies! Whether it was black lace or colored, the looks were both romantic and edgy. Designers sparingly worked lace in to their pieces in order to spice up their looks. Jason Wu’s lace insets were particularly eye-catching and sexy!

7. Gladiator Inspired Shoes:

All I can say is HOT, and I WANT THEM NOW! Absolutely love the return of gladiator style shoes. These knee grazing pieces are edgy, dramatic, and daring, and they completely transform your look. Make sure to get your hands on a pair before next Spring!

8. Pointed Pumps:

The pointer the hotter! The pointed pump trend has started to pick up again for Fall, and now we’re are seeing it for Spring as well. The sharper the point, the more elongated and slender your legs look. Designers have now revamped the pointed pump by adding ankle straps, contrasting colored tips, and fancy detailing for an edgier appeal. LOVE!

Start working some of these trends in to your looks now!

Which trend is your favorite?

Timeless Treasures: The Ever-Chic Louis Vuitton Shawl

We all love our mother’s old classic “hand me downs”. Be it a vintage jacket, strings of pearls, diamonds, or classic bags, some pieces are so luxurious and timeless that they are worthy of being collected over the years and passed down to your beloved as family treasures. For Reneta and I, such a piece which speaks of years of tradition and luxury, a piece that stands for legacy, is that from the house of LOUIS VUITTON.

Today’s featured treasures are our Louis Vuitton Shawls. They come in vivid colors, from soft romantic pastels such as a white, baby pink, mint green, light powder blue, and yummy mango yellow, to bold glamorous colors of red, grapevine purple, coal black, cocoa brown with hints of fiery gold work, and many more! These shawls are a must have fashion accessory. They not only make a simple outfit look so glamorous and rich, but they also add a CLASSIC CHICNESS to your entire ensemble.

These are not only gorgeous threads bound together but pieces of art as well. They keep you very warm and cozy while making you look sexy and classy. What else can a girl ask for?

Here are a few of our own  LV shawls that we absolutely LOVE!

Here are few ways how we like to wear them:

1. CASUAL CHIC: Jeans + Shirt + LV Shawl

2. SUMMER CHIC: Summer Dress + LV Shawl

3. RED CARPET GLAM: Gown + LV Shawl

Whether you fancy a bold statement hue or a more subtle neutral shade, there’s a shawl for everyone! All you need is one to transform all your outfits!

Chanel Resort 2013 Collection

Mary Antoinette meets rocker chick meets anime – this sums up the over the top, futuristic, and whimsical Karl Lagerfeld Resort 2013 collection for Chanel. I’m not gonna lie, but I’m kind of obsessed.

images via: seaofshoes.com

Mr. Lagerfeld always knows how to turn it up a notch season after season. He presented his collection at Versailles inspired by 18th Century France. The collection was comprised of florals, pastels, rococo silhouettes, intricate embroideries and embellishments. This ultra theatrical collection which was paired with colorful wigs, flouncy skirts, and thick soled shoes is the epitome of a fashion trendsetting.

Color Obsession: BABY BLUE!

Fresh, light, and airy, BABY BLUE was all over the SPRING 2012 runways. From Chanel to Versace, designers strongly embraced this pastel shade from dresses, to jackets, to accessories and more! I absolutely LOVE this hue as it can be worn both during the day and night with an air of sophistication. Also, baby blue can be paired easily with many shades. Whether it’s with another pastel shade, a bolder color, or even tone on tone, baby blue is chic in all senses.

You can spice up your baby blue ensemble by pairing it with silver, glitter, and/or some bling. This will give it a touch of richness, elegance, and glam!

Chanel’s Spring 2012 handbags collection features a gorgeous powder blue purse that is definitely a collectors piece. Having a great accent hand bag is great for transforming a simple outfit in to a statement look.

Inspired by this soft shade, I decided to create a nail art design with baby blue, silver, and glitter nail polish (seen below to your right). It’s always fun painting your nails one shade and having one or two accent nails for added drama.

Say goodbye to Monday blues and hello to BABY BLUE!

Fashion Show Styling

Elegant and GLAM was the theme for Fashions By Rohini’s Fashion Show last Saturday at the LA Convention Center. Urvika and I got to help style the beautiful Indian Wear designs by fashion designer Rohini Bedi. We decided to go with gorgeous up-dos ordained with chunky necklaces worn as headpieces complimented with small flowers. We absolutely love fun headpieces, and the chunkier the better! Using a bold statement necklace as a head piece is one of the easiest ways for creating that red carpet va-va-voom look. Indian wear is filled with COLOR, GLAMOUR, and ELEGANCE, and these head pieces definitely helped enhance the look. I absolutely loved the blue showstopper look that we created!

Here are a few fun shots we did with the beautiful models prior to the show taken by our fab photographer Tuhan Bedi!

After styling the models, Urvika and I slipped in to 2 of Rohini’s glamorous pieces. I absolutely loved my white lace corset blouse sari and Urvika’s mint colored heavily embellished sari.

Rohini’s Fashion Show consisted of various Saris, Lenghas, and Suits. The final showstopper look was a jacket style lengha which has gained a lot of popularity lately. The look is extremely flattering for all body types and is a nice twist to the traditional lengha.

Urvika and I had so much fun styling and working with the designer and models, and we can’t wait for our next styling gig!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Make a SPLASH in this Season’s Hottest Bathing Suits!

Ladies, that time of year has come again…the time to show off our fab beach bodies that we promised ourselves we would have in our new yrs resolutions. Now whether or not we have upheld those promises or cheated here and there with a sprinkles cupcake, this season’s bathing suits will have each and every one of you wanting to strut what you’ve got  and love the bodies you have!

The hottest trend this season is the ONE PIECE BATHING SUIT. Who would have thought that more coverage could be considered so sexy? From the bold sleekness at Micheal Kors, to the tribal cut outs at Herve Ledger, to the retro chic styles at Marc by Marc Jacobs, the one piece is clearly ruling this spring/summer and we are definitely not missing the bikini.

Recent obsession: NEON! It’s bold, its fun, its potent, and its SEXY! We saw splashes of this bright, daring hue all over the spring runways. From Oscar De La Renta, to Nanette Lepore, to Jason Wu, to Luca Luca, NEON made major headlines.

image via: jonesmagazine.com

Because spring is all about COLOR, wearing a head-to-toe neon ensemble won’t be considered a bit much, but rather, you’ll be making a statement the second you walk in to a room. But if you’re not feeling so daring, pair some fun neon pieces with more muted tones such as whites or browns, or enhance the look even further by contrasting it with bold magentas and aquas.

A few weeks back I did a post on office chic where my outfit had splashes of neon. Check it out! As you can see, a few neon pieces go a long way and add that extra umph to your outfit.

NEON MUST HAVES: chunky accessories, bags, statement heels, and skinny jeans. WHY? Because they can be worn in so many ways and they spice up any outfit in an instant!

Celebrities who have embraced the NEON trend:

Here are some fab neon heels:

All about the FLARE

This season is all about flare dresses – A fitted bodice with a flouncy skirt. We saw this chic ’50’s silhouette all over the spring runways and fell in love.

There are so many options when it comes to the flare dress. Whether it is a basic solid, pleated, lace, printed, or mix matched textured, flare dresses have a flirty, bold, and whimsical appeal. This perfect sweet meets sexy look is super easy to achieve and makes you look amazingly feminine and chic.

Why we love this look: This flattering look creates the illusion of a tiny waistline (and enhances the bodacious curves you already have), and elongates your legs. This look is best for, but not limited to, a woman with an hourglass figure.

How to add drama to this look: Pair the flare dress with a belt around the waist to accentuate the waist even more and add more curvature to your frame. Add some chunky sandals and slick your hair back with some volume for a rockin’ mod look!

Celebrities we love in flare dresses:

High End Swag, Low End Prices!

Call it imitations or copycats, hate it or love, the knockoffs world is making it easier for the mainstream public to finally flaunt high end designer styles with their low end budgets.

The world of knockoffs has been around for a while now and isn’t going anywhere. Whether it was recreating Kate Middleton’s exquisite Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding dress for less, or redoing the popular Stella McCartney polka dot panel dress for a fraction of the price, EVERYONE has embraced the knockoff trend.

image via: fushionmag.com

image via: racked.com

Fashion is all about getting inspired by the world around you, recreating, and reinventing. In today’s budget tight world, we can’t help but try to look for great deals, and when we find one, and a really good one that is, our heart skips a beat of joy!

Being a designer myself, I have to admit that I tend to cringe at the sight of knockoffs because I know how much hard work goes in to creating a garment. And to see my $300 silk dress in a similar version for $25 at another retail store can be quite difficult to swallow. But then again, who am I to complain? Every design stems from some form of inspiration, past or present. It is because of this notion that copying in the United States  is entirely legal when it comes to fashion.

The key difference  between a knockoff and the real deal is usually QUALITY – quality of fabric, hardware, embellishments, or durability. But then again, if you’re getting the same high end appeal for a fifth of the price, who’s complaining?

Here are a few examples of amazing replicas for a fraction of the price:

Jimmy Choo Pumps vs. Enzo Angiolini

Jeffrey Campbell vs. Quipid

Alexander McQueen vs.  Bien Bien

Are you a fan of the knockoff trend?
